HAWK MIGRATION OVER PANAMA

Day 1: Evening meet and greet orientation. Overnight at La Estancia Hotel or a similar hotel.

Day 2: Early in the morning transfer to Metropolitan Nature Park; the park is an excellent place to find birds of dry and second-growth forest, as well as the more widespread forest species of the Canal Area. Afternoon birding on Ancon Hill that offers the best vantage point for observing the huge flocks of migratory raptors, including Turkey Vultures, Broad-winged Hawks and Swainson’s Hawks that pass above the city in October and November. BLD, Overnight.

Day 3: After breakfast transfer to the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center that is located on the famous Pipeline Road, the observation tower is one of the places where raptors have been counted during the annual Ocean to Ocean Raptor Count that is carried out by the Panama Audubon Society. Birding on the Pipeline Road trails is one of the best places to see tropical birds in the Americas, with a species list exceeding 400 species. BLD, Overnight.

Day 4: Full day of birding on the Pipeline Road, international birders flock to the Pipeline Road, a 17km forested trail inside Soberania National Park. This ecological tour takes in some of the most important areas of the Pacific rainforest to observe birds, butterflies, wildlife and lush tropical vegetation. BLD, Overnight

Day 5: Transfer to Plantation Road, named for a long-overgrown cacao plantation that no longer is there. It extends 7 km to its junction with Camino de Cruces. Some species typical of the Atlantic slope begin to appear here, such asRoyal Flycatcher, Blue-crowned Manakin and others. In the afternoon, back to Ancon Hill to see the hawk migration.
